Whilst the training has taken a bit of a back seat, we have been concentrating on fundraising and are
making good progress. We have had a number of people sponsor us both using sponsor forms, and also online.
We would particularly like to thank both Ynys and Afan Masonic Lodges who have donated £60 and £100 respectively.
On 13th November, we ran a shopping trip to Bath, raising £107 through ticket sales and raffle money.
Thanks to all who participated and we hope you are enjoying the prizes.
Scottish & Southern Energy allowed us to run a dress-down day at their premises in Cardiff Gate Business Park
with the theme of 'Sports Day'. Staff paid £1 and wore sporty outfits for the day. This took place on 26th November
with thanks to Gareth Wood who helped organise the event. Staff from Focal Training Ltd generously gave of their
time to help collect the money, dressed as rugby players and footballers.
Prize for the SSE member of staff with the best outfit went to Mark Richards who dressed as Michael Schumacher.
He has won a signed rugby ball from the Newport Gwent Dragons, which he supports. Staff also participated
in a raffle and winners received free tickets for a Cardiff Blues home match, a day pass for Esporta health club,
and theatre vouchers worth £20. The total raised from this event was £511.28 and we'd like to thank all those involved
for helping us achieve this.
We ran a Christmas Fayre in Carmel Chapel hall in Port Talbot on 11th December, selling toys, books, videos, CDs, clothes
and homemade cakes. There were refreshments by way of tea and coffee, and fun stalls including a tombola, treasure map and
a lucky dip. A raffle was in the afternoon with great prizes, and winners received meal vouchers for the Harvester in
Llandarcy, and Pietro's restaurant in Port Talbot. We raised £313 as a result of the fete and also gained many items to sell
at car boot sales raising a further £210.
Since Christmas we have concentrated more on training for the trek but took some time out to organise Easter raffles at work
raising a total of £175, and we have also collected money at Morrison's supermarket in Port Talbot and Sainsbury's in Bridgend
which raised a total of £445!
With thanks to Barry John and Alex Thomas at Bro Morgannwg NHS Trust, June 22nd saw the IM&T Challenge Cup at Pontardawe Leisure
Centre. When the IM&T Allstars challenged Finance to a Football match, programmes were sold at £2 each, raising a fantastic £265!
Despite their lack of confidence, IM&T gave Finance a severe trouncing with a 5-1 victory to win the cup. The same can't be said
of the girls' penalty shootout at half-time however, when Julia's shocking kick straight to the goalkeeper cost IM&T the Barn Door
Trophy. A great evening however, which hopefully will be repeated in the not too distant future.
