What's it all about?

Being the nice people that we are, my girlfriend (Julia) and I have decided to sign up for a three day charity trek across the lava fields of Iceland . Not only will this involve raising lots of money for the Alzheimer's Society, but also lots of training to prepare ourselves for a three-day 40-mile slog.

So, to promote our cause and raise some money, I figured that I should add some kind of diary of our progress as we head towards our goal. Before we get too far into the proceedings, here's some serious stuff:

Over 750,000 people in the UK currently suffer from dementia of which more than 18,000 are under the age of 65. The Alzheimer's Society raise money not only for research into the disease, but also to help care for those who are affected. More information is available at Alzheimer's Society.
